HRSA Funding and the Kontrol Kube
The HRSA National Bio-Terrorism Hospital Preparedness Program Critical Benchmark 2-2 states: “Ensure that all participating hospitals have the capacity to maintain, in negative pressure isolation, at least one suspected case of a highly infectious disease (e.g., smallpox, pneumonic plague, SARS, influenza and hemorrhagic fevers) or febrile patient with a suspect rash or other symptoms of concern who might be developing a highly communicable disease. Recipient must identify at least one regional healthcare facility, in each Recipient defined region, that is able to support the initial evaluation and treatment of at least 10 adult and pediatric patients at a time in negative pressure isolation within 3 hours post-event.”
While
the needs of every healthcare facility are different, the
ability to respond in a crisis situation such as a
bio-terror event or infectious disease outbreak is
universal.
Large
facilities with permanent AII facilities often need
additional surge capacity or the ability to isolate immobile
patients, while smaller facilities with no permanent AII facilities need to be able to accept at least one suspected
case of highly infectious disease to receive HRSA
funding. The
Kontrol Kube Abacus is a perfect solution for large and
small healthcare facilities.
The
Abacus can be set up in just minutes and can be kept in
place under negative pressure as long as needed. This is of
particular use in situations where long term critical care
of infectious patients is necessary.
The
Abacus' unique beveled flange base allows for the movement
of gurneys, medical equipment, and supply carts with out
difficult lifting while the wide doors will not obstruct
passage. In addition The Abacus' large foot print makes it
perfect for removal, disposal and containment of
protective
outwear.
The
simplicity in training procedures can also assist in
compliance to HRSA Critical Benchmark #5.
